Burglar-resistant Homes

From Bakersfield to Ridgecrest, regardless of the neighborhood, theft can be an issue. Kern River Home Inspections would like to give you some tips to help you make it difficult for criminals to burglarize your home.

Burglars want to get access to the house and would want to be able to escape as quickly as possible.

There are a number of ways on how burglars enter homes. Some of it is through the front door,  windows, through the basement or storage rooms and even using pet doors.

Here are some tips on how to protect your home:

1. Using doors made of steel or solid-core wood construction should be the way to go. There should be no signs or rots and cracks and should be protected by bump-resistant locks. Your mail slots should come with a box since it gives burglars an opportunity to insert wires or cords and use it to enter your home. Installing a peephole can also be very helpful.

2. Glass doors should not be able to be lifted from the frame and locks should be located on their tops and bottoms.

3. There should be lights installed on the exterior of the house and it would be best if they are activated by motion sensors.

4. Iron bars on windows can be an amazing help to make your home burglar resistant.

5. If you prefer to install a fence, they should not be able to block the view of the entrance and it should not be difficult to see through.

A bit of planning and some minor changes to property can be a valuable investment to safeguard your home against the possibility of burglary or invasion.  The safety of your family should always come first more than anything.
